SEATTLE PREP—Allan Jones Construction Schedule Prep expects to put the roof on its new auditorium in early June, at which point the crane working on Miller St. will no longer be needed. The entire construction project should be done by the end of August, barring delays which could occur if any of the union workers on the project are called out on strike. Contractors on the project maintain Websites where neighbors can submit concerns and feedback. Post Construction Issues When construction is complete, NCHNA needs to push for repair of the damage caused to local streets by construction equipment. The impact on local parking during events at the new auditorium also needs to be monitored. It may become desirable to request the extension of parking-by-permit-only hours into some evenings. Events Calendar Prep is no longer mailing a print calendar of events. Neighbors will find a link to the new online Prep calendar at nchna.com BERTSCHI SCHOOL—Pegeen Shean Construction Schedule Bertshci construction is complete. Additions include innovative sound walls, solar panels and cisterns to collect and recycle rainwater. Neighbors will be invited to an open house at the school in July. Issues Pegeen agreed to look into problems raised by meeting attendees, including code violations on fences and signage, damage during construction to Boston St. between 10th Avenue and E. Broadway, parent cars that block traffic and driveways. There is currently no written agreement between Bertschi and NCHNA. 10TH AND MILLER BUSINESS DISTRICT—Allan JonesZero-lot-line, "work/live-in" townhouses are planned to replace the businesses now occupying the northwest corner of the intersection of 10th and Miller, extending north on 10th to the Roanoke Tavern. Construction may begin in August. The XO Bistro, which has gone out of business, may be replaced by a wine bar serving light food. The deal is pending. The space formerly occupied by The European Common Market is being rehabilitated. One rumor circulating is that the new tenant will be a dance studio. SR 520 UPDATE—Nancy Brainard For a summary of Nancy’s presentation including links to pertinent documents click here.Residents commented that costs for design concepts involving tunnels and tubes or an Arboretum by-pass could well be at least twice as much as the costs for any of the designs analyzed in the 2006 Draft Environmental Impact Statement. In response to a question about the University of Washington’s position on the Pacific Interchange design, Jonathan Dubman, representing Better Bridge, reported that the University’s early and public distaste for the design seems to have modified somewhat during recent dialogs. The University, however, has not endorsed any design. In an informal poll on whether tolls should begin prior to construction, meeting attendees voted 21% against and 78% in favor. NEW BUSINESS Event permits—the question was raised of whether the number of permits issued for runs, bike races and parades in the neighborhood can be reduced. Notice of such events when they are scheduled would also be appreciated. Residents are sometimes blocked from leaving or returning to their homes when these events occur. Coyote alert—at least one coyote is currently living in the green-space near Boston Terrace. Pets may be in danger. |
